We would like to invite our Friends, Patrons and followers to an informal “musical get-together”. Come and meet our new Principal Conductor, Rhys Herbert, and new Secretary of the Friends and Patrons, Ann Lloyd, and enjoy an afternoon with Tea and some relaxed chamber music played by some Principal musicians of the orchestra, in the beautiful surroundings of Usk's Sessions House. Little Rebels is a lively, interactive concert for families, bringing to life the dramatic events of the Chartist movement through brand-new music and storytelling. Designed especially for children aged 7–11 (and their grown-ups!), this 30–45-minute show invites audiences to listen, learn, and take part.

Meet John Frost - a local hero who stood up for what he believed in - and discover how ordinary people in Newport made history by demanding change. Through music, narration, and audience participation, you’ll explore big ideas in a fun and accessible way: What does it mean to be heard? How can small voices make a big difference? And why does our local history still matter today?

Performed by musicians from St Woolos Sinfonia, a vibrant mix of professional and highly skilled local players, Little Rebels is a chance for young people to experience live music up close, connect with their city’s past, and feel inspired to shape its future.

St Woolos Sinfonia invites you to an evening of romance and dance to herald the spring, as conductor Oi Ching Chan leads the Sinfonia in dance extracts from Purcell's The Fairy Queen.

St Woolos Sinfonia Young Artist and Newport native, tuba player Patrick Miller (RWCMD), joins us for Vaughan Williams's all-too-rarely-heard Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra.

Beethoven's ‘Apotheosis of the Dance’, his life-affirming Symphony No. 7, closes our spring concert and is guaranteed to send you off into the April evening uplifted and inspired.

All are warmly invited to the Cathedral’s Patronal Festival as we celebrate our patron saint and founder Gwynllyw.

The Archbishop of Wales will be preaching at the service.
A setting of Dean Ian Blacks' Triptych of the Saints, which celebrates the lives of Gwynllyw, Gwladys and Cadoc has been specially written for the service by Tom Coxhead, our Director of Music at the Cathedral.

There will be refreshments served afterwards, and all are most welcome to join us for this special occasion.
